Top 5 Scariest Soundtrack in Gaming

Yep it's nearly the Halloween 2018. Tonight, I decided to talk about the curtain of the game titles that I've experienced from the past. When its comes with the video game soundtrack was featured in both horror and non-horror games that became quite chaotic to listen and it makes everyone feels shivered after listening the haunting music that considered to be very disturbing, so I decided to make my own top 5 video game soundtrack that I considered sounds scary from the both horror and non-horror game titles. The curtain of the games from the horror categories such as Outlast, Clock Tower and Resident Evil which added the creepiness of the game's presentation, while the other games from the different kinds of genres such as Super Metroid and Earthbound are also have shares with the darkest moments especially with the dramatic soundtrack that makes it sounds quite horrific.

So without go further do, here are my top 5 scariest soundtrack in gaming.

5 - Sonic CD - Boss Theme (US Version)

Sonic CD is a 2D platformer game was released in early 90s for SEGA/Mega CD, a console add-ons for SEGA Genesis/Megadrive. It is highly regarded as being not the only the best platformer game of SEGA's 16-bit hardware, but as being the best system seller that had helped the system hardware sales.
You take control of SEGA lovable mascot Sonic the Hedgehog has set his mission twice again to save the journey from his nemesis Dr. Robotnik.

It was known for simplistic 2D gameplay, colourful graphics, wacky presentation and of course CD quality music. Unlike the European and Japanese version of Sonic CD has their own original soundtrack, the US version has their newer soundtrack composed by Spencer Nilsen and his crew as they wanted to make it sounds more richer and complex for its soundtrack. Theres one of the song that featured in boss battle which filled with chaotic environment of soundtrack followed by the wacky evil laugh at the background noise which I have never fully expecting this music sounds very disturbing for this type of game. The song that featured in boss battle are also featuring in weird Sonic imagery with subliminal messages on the screen can be found by using with the sound test codes on options menus. Its kinda weird that the boss battle song that featured on the US version considered sounds too scary for the 2D platformer genres which didn't fully happened on the EU and JP releases are more focused on the edginess and cool soundtrack of boss battle.

4 - Super Metroid - Mother Brain battle theme

Super Metroid is highly regarded as being one of the greatest SNES game ever made by Nintendo in early 90's and it is highly credited as being the biggest landmark of Metroidvania genres.
The story takes place after the event of Metroid 2: Return of Samus. The bounty hunter named Samus Aran receives a distress call as she returns to Space Colony to find the scientists who was killed by the leader of the Space Pirates named Ridley. After escaping from the Space Colony, she travels to Planet Zebes to retrieve an stolen infant Metroid creature.

The game was known for its non-linear level design, exploration, unique power-ups and epic boss battles that made the game so much fun to play. The best part of the game was the final boss stage where you have to battle against the nemesis called Mother Brain as the soundtrack plays very dramatic which filled with the heavier drums and that deadly screeching noises which I considered this as the most frightening things of 16-bit gaming.

3 - Outlast - Swarm Ambience

Outlast is a Survival Horror game for PC, PS4 and XBONE, which both developed and published by Red Barrels.

Its one of the scariest horror game of all-time which filled with great storyplot, some horror elements and overall atmosphere that may going to surprise you with multiples of jumpscares and mentally villains in the whole game. The story is about journalist named Miles Upshur who has a mission to investigate in Mental Hospital, which involves deadly patient, religious occult rituals and dead corpses which spreads everywhere in any room.

While the game was known for its horror presentation and stealthy gameplay, there are one of the soundtrack that really makes your ears ringing is the ones that featured in the game called "Swarm Ambience" which has a female choir that starts screaming from top of their lungs slowly from low to high pitch sounds giving a sudden nightmares inside of your head that never goes away. While most of the soundtrack are considered terrifying, but this song is just way more disturbing to listen because Outlast has the best sounds environment for horror gaming.

2 - Silent Hill - Devil's Lyric

Silent Hill is one of my favourite horror title for PS1, created by Konami. It is psychological horror game title which offered deadly imagery of presentation with gory looking levels, creepy looking zombies, some mysterious ghost and well written story that makes the game quite entertaining to play. The game focuses on Harry Mason have to search for his lost daughter name Cheryl since the car accident, as he have to explore the mysterious town of Silent Hill that filled with psychological dimension between real life and nightmare.

While the game was known for combat and puzzle gameplay and gruesome graphics, it is also has the most horrific sounds environment that makes everyone shivers after listening those creepy soundtrack of the game. The Devil's Lyric is the soundtrack that uses the background noise of machinery and distressed sound effects which makes the sounds very gritty, as its fits really well for the horror genres.

1 - SOMA - Every chase themes from all creatures

SOMA is a Sci-Fi Survivor Horror game for PS4, XBONE and PC, which was developed and published by Frictional Games who are known for their previous titles such as Pennumbra and Amnesia series.
The story focuses on Simon Jarrett who was suffered with his severe brain injury due to car accident and he has an brain scan appointment with the Doctor named David Munshi began to experimenting on Simon's brain until the scan went horribly wrong which causing Simon to black out and regains consciousness in Site Upsilon of PATHOS-II which filled with mysterious creatures known as WAU.

The game was known for its unique storyplot, darker environment and horror atmosphere that had becoming the main highlight of the horror title. What really makes the soundtrack scarier is the part where Simon was been chased by the WAU in the whole area of research facility. Its kinda like it mixes with between Terminator and Silent Hill have put together for its dark industrial style of music is what really makes the chase sequences quite intense, but frightening at the same time. The developer team did a fantastic job with the use of sound environments what really makes the SOMA a finest horror game of this generation.
