SEGA made their a coolest game consoles in 90's which is called SEGA Genesis (A.K.A Megadrive in JP and UK). It was first released in Japan on 1988 while the US and UK was released later on between 1989 and 1990. It is the successor of their third generation console called SEGA Master System was released on 1985. SEGA Genesis/Megadrive is a first 16 bit game console on the forth generation era to complete with their rivals Nintendo who are ready to face with SEGA by kicking off with their powerful 16 bit console called Super Nintendo. It is known for having the most impressive games titles such as Shinobi 3, Street of Rage series, Shining Force, Phantasy Star 2, Golden Axe series, Outrun, Super Hang-On, Columns, Gunstar Heroes, and of course Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the SEGA's most ironic video game mascots that made this series so popular in 90's. SEGA Genesis/Megadrive was the second best-selling game consoles on forth generation console era behind SNES was still on the top.

I decided to pick 5 of my best SEGA Genesis/Megadrive games that I really enjoyed playing these games, so this part of my opinions and please enjoy my top 5 SEGA Genesis/Megadrive Games.

5 - Columns

The puzzle games genre was successful in 80's when it's comes with games like Tetris was released for whole console platforms especially with Game Boy version that made the game becoming biggest hit in 1989. In 1990, SEGA made their own awesome puzzle game called Columns for SEGA Genesis/Megadrive and it is the most colourful puzzle game on the system.

This game has addictive gameplay where you have to match three of the same colour jewellery in the right line to gain the points that makes you keep playing in whole hours. It has decent game modes with 2-player battle, crystal graphics with nice variety of colours and visuals, and it does have the amazing orchestrated greek soundtrack that fits the mood of the game atmospheres. This is definitely the best puzzle game for SEGA Genesis/Megadrive.

4 - Shinobi 3: Return of Ninja Master

Shinobi 3: Return of the Ninja Master is a excellent sequel to Revenge of Shinobi for SEGA Genesis/Megadrive.

I really liked the Revenge of Shinobi for SEGA Genesis/Megadrive, but I perfer the Shinobi 3 lot better than the previous one because it brings a lot of improvements for better gameplay combat with more variety of moves and techniques makes the character a lot easier to control. I find the levels and the boss battles in the game a lot better compared with previous game because it gives a much challenge of the game's difficulty which makes the game a better overall. The graphics has much detailed animation and visuals, and it has the memorable soundtrack in the series.

If you're into with Ninja types of video games like Ninja Gaiden series then Shinobi is definitely worth for you to try.

3 - Golden Axe

Golden Axe is a fantastic arcade to console hack and slash game for SEGA Genesis/Megadrive and it is the Conan the Barbarian of 16 bit gaming classics where you can slice the shit of these enemies.

You get to play as 3 playable warriors such as Gillius Thunderhead, Ax Battler and Tyris Flare to battle against the nemesis Death Adder and his henchmen to avenge their family's death and save their home land.

This game has main quest with 2-player co-op and the duel mode. It has straightforward combat gameplay with basic attacks and dashing attacks are very responsive and simple to use. The magic attacks are the best part of the game because using the different types of magic such as fire, earth and lighting that are very useful to perform the magic attacks. I also liked riding on the dragons which is fun because it's shoots out their projectiles such as fire breathing and fire ball. This game has awesome levels and epic boss fights that makes the game so fun to play with and the soundtrack is so classy that gives a medieval feel to the game's levels. This is definitely recommended to the fans of hack and slash genres.

2 - Street of Rage 2

Street of Rage is the kickass 16 bit beat em ups series of all time. I'm very impressed with the first original with 3 excellent playable characters, 7 playable levels, straightforward gameplay controls and it has the best soundtrack in the game that made the first game so fun and original at the same time. I say the Street of Rage 2 is much better sequels regarding with the big improvements over the first game has to offer for beat em ups fans.

This game introduced 2 new playable characters, better gameplay mechanics with responsive hit collision and new special moves, and much cleaner graphics overall that made the game more up to date compared with the first game. I really like the presentation at the start of the game with impressive cutscenes and interesting dialogue where the game takes place after the first game.
I finding the gameplay overall a lot better because it balanced with basic attacks and using special moves that makes the game more realistic and intense. It has more depths of the level design and the boss fights are just epic as hell. The soundtrack was made by Yuzo Koshiro did a brilliant job with using stylish electronic beats music that shows SEGA Genesis/Megadrive soundchip can able to handle the music's overall. It is the best beat em ups game for SEGA Genesis/Megadrive.

1 - Sonic The Hedgehog 2

We all know the first Sonic the Hedgehog are the best platform game ever released in 1991 that made Sonic so popular among with fanbase and gamers citing Sonic as one of the most coolest video game mascots of all time. SEGA was later released another sequel called Sonic 2 which becoming the second best-selling Genesis/Megadrive game of all time behind Sonic 1.

Sonic 2 is one of my all time favourite 2D platform game on SEGA Genesis/Megadrive. This game introduced Tails (A.K.A Miles the Prower) as second playable characters, it has more depth of levels, newer character ability such as Sonic's spindash for example. It also has 3D special stage to collect chaos emeralds, and 2-player co-op or duel mode that the game has to offer. I really liked the whole levels in the game with fast-paced gameplay controls, unique level design, collecting rings, using power-ups such as speed running and invincibility, and the boss levels are also fun and entertaining to play. I also loved 3D special stages where I have to collect enough rings to collect chaos emeralds, so you can become Super Sonic during the gameplay which is also cool for this game.

It is one of my favourite SEGA Genesis/Megadrive games of all time.
