My 5 Christmas Wish List of 2018

Yep, it's almost Christmas, a holiday that where people celebrating this season with bunch of Christmas related stuff like decorations, trees, building snowman, dressing up as Santa, singing Christmas Carol, watching Christmas films, preparing special dinner and of course unwrapping the present from the family and friends is what the Christmas is all about, but I wanted to focus on the things that I considering getting it on this holiday as I'm looking forward to see what kind of my gifts that I end up getting, so I decided to make my own wishlist that I wanted to have on the day of Christmas.

Here is my 5 Christmas Wish List of 2018.

1 - Nintendo Classic Mini

Back in the day of mid-80's where gaming console had becoming a worldwide successful which is the original Nintendo Entertainment System that finally saves the gaming industries from the terrible crash of Video Game in 1983 due to numerous of game libraries, third-party support, simple controller design, colourful 8-bit graphics and memorable soundtrack from each games that really defines gaming.

Despite the success of the original NES console from the 80's, Nintendo had finally revealed the smaller version of NES which is a Nintendo Classic Mini (AKA NES Classic Edition in US and Nintendo Classic Mini: Family Computer in Japan) was released in year November 2016 and then got discontinued in April 2017. Due to high demands of NES Classic Mini console, it got re-released in June 2018. This dedicated system helps the gamers of 80's era by re-visiting back to their childhood favourites featuring a 30 games titles built-in such as Ninja Gaiden, Megaman 2, Castlevania, Super Contra, Metroid, Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros and many more great titles to play on.

I felt that the price of this system is very reasonable which made me want to pick it up for less than £50 because I just really wanted to play these old-school gaming, so if I don't buy this on time before it went out of stock again then the NES Classic Mini goes really expensive for more than the original price cost.

2 - Shantae: Half Genie Hero - Ultimate Edition (PS4)

I was super impressed with the past Shantae titles such as Shantae: Risky's Revenge, and Shantae and the Pirate's Curse which is the 2D metroidvania games where you take control of half-genie girl named Shantae sets her quest to save her homeland from the evil Pirate leader named Risky Boots. During her quest, Shantae has her ability to use her hair as whip attack and using her magic items as well as unlocking her new abilities and discovering new locations which leading her to battle against her nemesis in whereabouts.

While I finding these games are quite entertaining, I'm considering to pick the physical copy of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero - Ultimate Edition which comes with official soundtrack, artbook, and all DLCs pack are included on the actual completed game disc. I'm looking forward to play a newer titles filled with brand new adventures with story and gameplay, cartoon style graphics, and more game modes with extra content.

3 - Sonic Mania Plus (PS4)

Back in my old days of 90's where the Blue Hedgehog named Sonic had becoming one of a SEGA's most lovable mascot that really made SEGA's 16-bit hardware quite successful. The very first Sonic game that came out in year 1991 for SEGA Genesis/Megadrive to complete with their rivalry such as Nintendo's memorable mascot Mario with the SNES. It sold over 15 million copies worldwide that led into SEGA's success which spawned numerous of sequels, spin-offs, toy merchandises, cartoon shows, comic books and etc.
Despite the success of the franchise, it went go down the drain with shitty Sonic later titles in around mid-2000s and nowadays. SEGA had learned their lesson from their horrible titles from the past (such as Sonic 06 and Unleashed) which led the team to work on the project called Sonic Mania which is a 2D platformer game that finally brings back the original 16-bit root of the classic Sonic titles that we all love.
It filled with enhancement 2D graphics resembling the classic 16-bit era, 12 levels including eight redesigned stages from the past games, speedy 2D platforming gameplay, and three playable characters. The plus edition comes with two newer characters, new game mode with remixed levels and four-player competition mode.
As a fan of Sonic franchises, I'm very glad that SEGA are going back to this classic root of Sonic titles which got me excited to play this type of game.

4 - Megaman 11 (PS4)

The blue bomber is finally back for its 30th anniversary of beloved franchise by Capcom. Megaman is a action-platform game where you take control of Megaman to battle against his nemesis Dr.Wily and the Robot Masters. It was known for its unique levels filled with hazardous objects and enemies, gaining newer weapon ability, cool presentation with great story intro and characters, and amazing 2D gameplay.

It's been for like a 8 years since after the release of Megaman 10 where Capcom did a shitty move of cancelling their recent projects such as Megaman Legends 3 and Megaman Universe that really got the fans excited for the announcements, but got badly outraged at the end after finding out the cancellation of these bigger two projects. Capcom had finally opened their ears to the fans and give them what they wanted with the newer Megaman title released in year 2018. It retains the classic Megaman 2D gameplay with newer weapons and abilities, newer robot masters to fight against, modern style graphics with classic style 2D environments, and additional features including Time Trials, Missions, Concept Art Gallery and more.

I'm definitely to look forward to see a new Megaman game which got me hyped to see a return of the classic franchise.

5 - Action Replay Plus (SEGA Saturn)

Back in our retro gaming days where some of the third-party companies wanted to make their own kinds of gaming accessories like game controllers, universal game adaptors and other weird technologies. I remember the time that I had the Action Replay for the Nintendo Gamecube and Game Genie for the SEGA Genesis/Megadrive which I am using these for not just for the actual cheats system like unlocking stuff, infinite mode and other weird stuff, but I just wanted to use it to bypass the system region code which allows me to play any of US and JP NTSC games on my PAL game system.

I'm considering to get a Action Replay Plus for SEGA Saturn because I just wanted to play any of US and JP exclusive titles that never got made in PAL releases like Radiant Slivergun, X-Men vs Street Fighter, Astal and other kinds of titles. The price of this adaptor are quite expensive on Ebay which mean I had to wait for while until it goes down cheaper for like less than £20 in the right future. I just wanted to have a fun experiment of having this thing tested on my game console to see if its actually works well when attempting to play JP games on my PAL system.

Top 5 Great Arcade Games that never came to Home Consoles

Back in my old days, I remember playing tons of arcade titles of early 90's to late 2000's. The arcade machines are located in places like theme parks, cinemas, and restaurants, while places like retro gaming stores that they normally kept it for very long time. The games like Street Fighter 2, Mortal Kombat, SEGA Rally Championship, Outrun, After Burner 2 and many of the successful arcade classics that are later being released for home consoles that gamers can able to enjoy these titles at their home. I wanted to focus on the arcade games that are never got it made to the home consoles version, so it's kinda sounds odd that the famous companies like SEGA, Capcom, Konami and others publishers are missing out some of the great games that I've enjoyed the most, but it's rather kinda shame that they are never able to port it to consoles version, so everyone can able to pick it up and play it on their home systems. Luckily I'm able to play those arcade titles on Mame 32 which is a video game emulator that allow you to play several of your favourite arcade games on your PC.

I decided to make my 5 favourite arcade games that should have been released to the home consoles, so without go further do, here is my Top 5 Great Arcade Games that never came to Home Consoles.

5 - Violent Storm

Released in 1993, Konami made their beat em ups for arcade machines created by Konami, a same company behind franchise like Castlevania, Contra, and Metal Gear Soild.
Konami was the master of the beat em ups genres which they shares with great titles like X-Men Arcade, TMNT: Arcade Game, and of course The Simpsons Arcade.

Violent Storm is a beat em ups game where you take control of three mens setting out to rescue their woman friend named Sheena, who was held kidnapped by the biker gangs of Lord Geld. The game looks identical to Capcom's early beat em up title Final Fight with similar gameplay style, but it has larger graphics design, catchy 80's style soundtrack and different looking presentation that made the game looks and sounds very interesting. Each of the playable characters has different types of fighting styles such as Wade, a balanced fighter with simple attack, Boris was capable of using his powerhouse throwing attack, and Kyle uses his fast-paced kick to prevent enemy's charge attack. I was impressed with the gameplay fighting style, the game's challenge, the enemies and boss battles that adds up the game's epicness, so it would have been sounds awesome if this game were made for 16-bit home consoles like SNES, but it never happened. I would love to see this game deserves to be re-release for the modern day console, so that the fans of the genres can able to enjoy this epic brawler.

4 - Viper Phase 1

Seibu Kaihatsu Inc. was best known for their classics shoot em ups arcade game series such as Raiden. They released the spin-offs titles in the series called Viper Phase 1 for Arcade machines in 1995.
The game is identical to their previous Raiden titles, but takes place in space as you take control of space fighters to battle out their rebels to save the earth. The game is just quite good as the previous titles, but it offers much more better variation of shoot em ups gameplay that made the game quite fun to play.

What made me really surprised me the most is the 6 types of power ups that allow your firing power to become stronger, so things like letter P symbol that powers up your Vulcan Gun, the Blue Laser are the most damaging secondary weapons are worked effectively on larger enemies, the Burst Missile that firing multiples of missile, the Napalm Missile that shoots large green explosions of missile dealing with heavy damage, and the Wide Vulcan that expands your Vulcan Gun into wide firing making it easier to shoot whole enemy's ship. Despite the quality gameplay, the graphics are well made for its level design, the special effects and presentations that made the game looks very appealing for the mid-90's gaming. It's definitely has the best original soundtrack of all stages which makes you feel pumped up for shoot em ups action.
The game also forced you to play the whole stages again after beating the game, but becoming much more harder to play which adds up a magnificent replay values of the game if you want to become a shoot em up experts.

Unlike some of the Raiden titles that are released to home consoles, the Viper Phase 1 are the only game that never got made it to home consoles, so I wish this game deserves to be re-release in the future because Viper Phase 1 is among being one of my favourite shoot em ups game of all-time.

3 - GunForce 2

In the year 1994, Irem made their one of their last arcade titles called GunForce 2, a superior sequel to the 1991's title GunForce and It was made by same team behind their later SNK's Run N Gun series such as Metal Slug. The game focuses on two playable heroes set off to shoot down many of the enemies and rescue several of female hostages who are been held captive.

The whole presentation and gameplay are very similar approach to SNK's Metal Slug as the sequel are considered to be a major improvement over the original game. It has multiple of environmental destruction which filled with explosions and wreckage which adds the game's atmospheres as it feels much like the 80's action films of Run N Gun genres. This game features awesome weapons to choose from such as flamethrower and laser are great addition for its combat gameplay and it has really cool segments of riding on multiples of vehicles such as mechs, motorbikes, tanks and flying crafts which adds the overall greatness of Run N Gun action. The game also featured 2-player co-op which you and your friend will able to enjoy the epic action game.

The game are also released for PC in 2011 as Irem Arcade Hits, but it would have been sounds better off re-releasing it for the home consoles such as PS4, XBONE, and Switch. If you're the fan of the games like SNK's Metal Slug then this game is definitely for you to play.

2 - Ninja Baseball Bat Man

Imagine having a classic 80's Cartoons shows like TMNT combining with Baseball Sports related things that would become as Ninja Baseball Bat Man is a Arcade Beat Em Ups title by Irem that was released in 1993.
You get to play as 4 playable Baseball players dressed up as Ninjas has set off their mission to retrieve their stolen various artifacts. It's one of the weirdest Arcade game I ever played which featured a several of enemies are completely made of the Baseball equipments and other weird random things.

There are 4 playable characters that you get to choose such as Captain Jose the balanced character with simple moves, Twinbats Ryno which is a speedy fighter with quick pacing attacks, Beanball Roger is fat and powerful brawler, and Stick Straw are capable of using long-range attacks. Each of the characters has different set of special moves, combo attacks and fighting mechanics that adds the variation of gameplay style. It has addicting 4-player co-op are great for local multiplayer and epic levels with tons of insane enemies and crazy boss battles that keeps you playing more and more. The graphics are very comical with cartoony style characters and colourful environments that adds up the presentation well for early 90's arcade days.

I find the title screen quite bizarre as it's says Bat Man at the name title which I finding it sounds confusing because it has nothing to do with actual DC comics character from the past such as Batman, so it should have been meant to say Batsmen which would have made sense to this game to avoid the name confusion.
I considered this game a forgotten hidden gems of arcade library that no one have ever heard before due to game only came out on Arcade machine meaning there are no home console release for this game. It would have been sounds really awesome if this game could have gotten a re-release for later consoles.

1 - Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder

Back in my old childhood days, I remember playing the original Golden Axe for SEGA Genesis/Megadrive are among not just being one of the greatest Hack N Slash/Beat Em Ups game of all-time, but one of the most impressive arcade to home console conversion that showed off what SEGA Genesis/Megadrive could handle the game well from the arcade counterpart. The success of first has spawned with sequels and spin-offs titles for later years after the original game. There's one of the game that got my attention was Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder that came out for arcade hardware in 1992. It's one of the first game of the series that never got made into the home consoles which I find it quite odd that SEGA could never able to release this game for their later home systems like SEGA Saturn that would have been sounded like a excellent addition to the Saturn home library that didn't actually happened, so moving on with this game right now.
You get to choose 4 of the playable warriors such as Goah the giant, Stern the barbarian, Dora the Kentauride, and Little Trix has their quest to battle against the medieval Death Adder once again.

The game featured with multiples paths that allows players to choose different pathways, the 4-player co-op are the welcome addition of local multiplayer play, and each of the characters has different magic powers depending what playable characters you're play as in local play. The characters such as Goah, Stern and Dora uses the offence magic attacks, while Trio uses the magic powers to replenish his health with apple trees.
The best part of the game's presentation was the enemy's death animation sequence where the player performing the magic attacks which led the enemies being burned alive or turned into rock artifects.
I was impressed with the fluid animations, detailed environments and cool special effects that made the game look very stunning for the early 90's arcade. The combat gameplay is much more faster and smoother that made the game more enjoyable than the previous installiment has to offer.

I think SEGA should re-release this game for the later console in the future because its clearly being one of the best looking arcade Hack N Slash/Beat Em Ups game that everyone will able to enjoy this kind of game.

Honorable Mentions:

Alien vs Predator
Cadillacs and Dinosaurs
Star Wars Trilogy Arcade
R-Type Leo
The Outfoxies

Amnesia Collection PS4 Review

Amnesia Collection is a video game compilation of three titles for PS4 and XBONE, which was originally developed and published by Fractional Games for its first game, while the sequel was developed by The Chinese Room. It is a Survival Horror game which the original game was first originally released for PC in 2010 as Amnesia: The Dark Descent, While Amnesia: Justine was originally downloadable content released year after the original game, then the sequel Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs was released for PC in 2013.

I have heard a positively of the first game was praised by video game critics and the fan of the genres regarding the game as being one of the scariest game titles of horror genres and it is also being most influential game that really inspires the later horror titles with similar game style such as Outlast, Layers of Fear, and Slender: The Arrival. The sequel had never received well as the original making it the weakest title of the series which receives underwhelming feedback from its fans of the first game, while critics had given a fairer reviews, so I decided to wait for these collection to go down the price until I have finally purchased the Amnesia Collection for PS4 from the Halloween sales of PS Store.

I had a chance to play these games to see if these games are going to impress me and is it worth for playing over the hours of fearsome titles, the answer is the collection is rather an average at best because I felt that the Amnesia: The Dark Descent is the strongest horror title that I've liked the most for its clever puzzle gameplay, horror atmospheres, and interesting storylines, while the sequel had missing several of important gameplay features from the original which makes the game quite too linear and simplistic to play as its being an inferior to the original game. Its really hard for console owners to decide whether they like to buy these collection for its worth of original price because it didn't came as the separate titles, so unlike the PC owner are able to buy these game separately so they can able to enjoy the first game even more than having to get the inferior sequel.

So without go further do, lets start the review.

Presentation

In The Dark Descent that takes place in late August 1839, a man named Daniel awakens in the dark and empty halls of the Prussian Brennenburg Castle, which he had lacked of his memory from the past as he began to exploring a dark castle, while he's trying to maintain his sanity by avoiding monsters and other terrifying obstructions. The sequel A Machines for Pigs focuses on a butcher named Oswald Mandus awakens from a fever that has lasted for several months, after returning from a trip of Aztec ruins in Mexico, as he searches for his two sons in different areas of Industrial factory.

I find the story was quite interesting in both games as what makes the first story worthy is that collecting diaries in the areas which reveals the story of the Daniel's past such as his past history of his archaeological expedition at the tomb of Tin Hinan in Algeria and receiving a letter from Baron Alexander which leads him to visit at Prussian Brennenburg Castle. The main protagonist Daniel is nothing but a scaredy cat that can't keep control of his sanity when it's comes with monsters in the castle as poor Daniel always starting mumbling in dark area in fear. Baron Alexander is the psycho-paths that he became obsessed with torturing the innocent people with deadly punishment such as types of execution methods in prison rooms making him the most disturbing video game villains in horror gaming. The second story is also good for its Mandus trying to regain his memory while he searches his sons whereabouts. He gets the call from the engineer knows where his sons been located in as he has to complete the task that the engineers had given him a guidance. I find Oswald Mandus kinda okay, but doesn't have a great personalities great as the main character Daniel from the first game. He had so much cared about his children went missing as he made himself promised to get his kids safe as soon as possible.

The horror presentation in both games are looking magnificent that defines modern horror genres. The Dark Descent offers horrific settings of castle that filled with blood and gore, darker areas that went everything goes pitch black, the whole environment of castles are gritty and mysterious giving a medieval look, while the A Machines for Pigs are more of haunting tone of atmosphere and some dark elements of factory in the game are also looked creepy which fits the whole presentation of the game well. The scariest part of the first game was the types of monsters in the castle such as the grunt that has the deformed face with their mouth dropped down and the brute that has big huge blade on their hand are looked very terrifying as they can able to chase you faster around the levels which really adds up the atmosphere of the game, while A Machine for Pigs does have a machinery like Pigs are also looked terrifying with their pigs squeals screaming all the way, but not as scary as the ones in The Dark Descent. I also liked the use of special effects on sanity part of the first game where Daniel had his head cracked up causing him to lose vision which makes the screen goes blurry are the best examples of how people have reacted while being encountered by enemies depending on their level of sanity.

Overall, it has great horror presentation and interesting storylines on both games.

Gameplay

You get to select these any of the three games on the menus and its also introducing the hard mode for The Dark Descent on both PC and XBONE, while PS4 will get it soon later around the end of 2018.

In The Dark Descent, you get to take control of Daniel of exploring the mysterious castle while dealing with his sanity, solving the puzzles and avoiding monsters nearby are the main key of survival, while A Machines for Pigs takes control of Mandus searching for his two lost sons in factory.

The Dark Descent involves exploration and running to survive, while finding clues and solve puzzles by collecting notes that gathers information which can be found in different rooms as you can able to interact and open the objects such as tables, drawers and other furniture in which you can able to read whats been said on the paper that gives you clues such as mixing chemicals, activating machines, searching for keys, and other kinds of puzzle solving which leads you to the next room.
You have the items inventory screen which gives you an options to use and combine items which are very useful for its gameplay elements and you have the lamp touch which you can able to use it in the dark areas of rooms, but the oil can run out very quickly in which you need to use it wisely not to waste the lamp oil as you can able to refill the lamp oil from the inventory screen or the rooms that has oil canteen. Speaking of the lamp oil, you can also find tinderbox items which allow you to light up the candles to reduce the darkness as the darkness can also effect your sanity level leading into the fear that makes your character lose confidence, so keep the eye out of your sanity level while in the dark rooms. The game also involves stealth elements where you need to avoid being caught by the monsters nearby, so you will need someplace to hide while not to get closer to them, if so then they can chase you really fast making the player harder to evade the enemy encounter attack. Having the lamp touch on and making running noises can also attract the monsters too in which you will need to be very careful while attempting to escape, but you can also distract them by throwing small objects in random places.
You can take the health potion which increases your characters health conditions, so you need to be very careful not to get horribly damaged by these enemies. So far, I really enjoyed exploring around the castle which I felt that the game is looked bigger for its horror titles and I got to say the puzzle aspects and gameplay elements are very good for most part which really motivates me to enjoy this type of game. Getting chased around by the monsters are the highlight of the game that adds the overall atmosphere of the gameplay style, so its sort of like playing hide and seek for horror gaming. The expansion pack level called Amnesia: Justine are just the 10 mins survival mode where you get to control of woman named Justine, so it didn't have autosave functions and continues which means you will die instantly while not taking back to check point which adds up the game's challenge. The developer team are also adds hard mode on the The Dark Descent which had the same rules as the Amnesia: Justine making the game even scarier than playing on the regular difficulty.

A Machines for Pigs is completely opposite from the original. Most of the important features of originals such as ability to use inventory screen, use oils for lamp touch, sanity levels and more important stuff wasn't present in the game which did not add up the game's challenge, so I'm not able to use tinderbox to light up candles, combining items together and adding oils on lamp which I finding it quite bummer and I do find this game is too linear rather than focusing on exploration and puzzles which makes the game too easy to beat for most part. The enemy encounter in this sequel is rather slow compared with the original which I felt that they haven't bothered making the enemies go faster which really drags down my overall experiences. Unfortunately I find A Machine for Pigs had becoming a weakest of the collection which is shame that this game had tone down the gameplay quality causing to miss out the important features from the first game. I think The Chinese Room didn't have their enough effort to make a such great horror title, so it would have been made the game better if the sequel been handed to Fractional Games, a original developer of The Dark Descent, knew how to make the game properly right.

Overall, The Dark Descent has better overall gameplay for its puzzle, stealth and exploration, while  A Machine for Pigs had lacked of important features from the original.

Graphics

The graphics are looked quite acceptable for most part. It has impressive visuals of dark environments making the game quite haunting, but very super dark at same time which made it very hard for players to navigate things and see whats going on while walking around the dark area. I really liked the special effects on sanity parts where the whole screen went blurry which makes the whole game look very disturbing and the lighting on the lamp are also looked nice with glossy look of the shades at the backgrounds. The wall textures on the castle and rooms are looked pretty neat with no sudden smudges around the walls. The gorey environments in whole game are quite looked gruesome which really fits the atmosphere of the game.

Overall, it has great visuals, cool special effects and detailed environments.

Music and Sounds

The music in both games are the top notch for its creepy atmospheric sounds and sinister ambience soundtrack which really suited for the modern horror aspects of the game. I also liked the soundtrack of chase sequences with dramatic themes which really shows the overall scare factor of the game. The soundtrack for The Dark Descent was composed by Mikko Tarmia, while A Machine for Pigs was composed by Jessica Curry which I personally liked the atmospheres and realism sounds of the first game, while the second ones are also good for its orchestral style. The sound effect in the first game are kinda sounds creepy as you can able to hear the realistic grunting noises of monsters are definitely sounds terrifying in good ways, while the sequel had the screaming pig squeals.
The voice cast did a great job of story narrating and character's voice quality in both games which adds the personality in the game.

Overall, it has creepy soundtrack, realistic sound effects and great voice acting.

Special Features

The PC version also featured custom story which allows you to create and play the modded level campaign and it is also including the hard mode for The Dark Descent in PC and XBONE version, while PS4 version will able to get it on the end of 2018 via patch updates.

Overall, it has custom story for PC version and hard mode for all platforms.

Advantages

Horror Presentation on both games

Interesting Storylines on both games

Puzzle Gameplay

Decent Graphics

Realistic Horror Sounds

Having Hard Mode as newer feature of original

Disadvantages

Sequel had slow enemy encounter attack and lacked of important features from the original

Sequel is the weakest of the collection

Super dark areas making harder to navigate things

Final Verdict

Presentation 8/10 - Great horror presentation and interesting storylines on both games.

Gameplay 6.5/10 - The Dark Descent has better overall gameplay for its puzzle, stealth and exploration, while  A Machine for Pigs had lacked of important features from the original.

Graphics 8/10 - Great visuals, cool special effects and detailed environments.

Music and Sounds 8/10 - Creepy soundtrack, realistic sound effects and great voice acting.

Special Features 8/10 - It has custom story for PC version and hard mode for all platforms.

Overall 6.5/10 -  I find the Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Amnesia: Justine are the high points of the collection, while A Machine for Pigs are considered a bitter polarising title for the fans of the first game who are expecting the sequel to be just good as the first ones, but its not good enough to impress. Unlike the PC owners are able to buy games separately on Steam, Its really difficult to recommend console owners to purchase the whole Amnesia Collection from the PS Store and XBOX Games Store for its original price, so its worth better for waiting the price goes down cheap through sales.

My second opinion is to best to stick with the Amnesia: The Dark Descent and the expansion Amnesia: Justine because its a better horror title for console owners would able to enjoy these games than the sequel.

Top 5 Scariest Soundtrack in Gaming

Yep it's nearly the Halloween 2018. Tonight, I decided to talk about the curtain of the game titles that I've experienced from the past. When its comes with the video game soundtrack was featured in both horror and non-horror games that became quite chaotic to listen and it makes everyone feels shivered after listening the haunting music that considered to be very disturbing, so I decided to make my own top 5 video game soundtrack that I considered sounds scary from the both horror and non-horror game titles. The curtain of the games from the horror categories such as Outlast, Clock Tower and Resident Evil which added the creepiness of the game's presentation, while the other games from the different kinds of genres such as Super Metroid and Earthbound are also have shares with the darkest moments especially with the dramatic soundtrack that makes it sounds quite horrific.

So without go further do, here are my top 5 scariest soundtrack in gaming.

5 - Sonic CD - Boss Theme (US Version)

Sonic CD is a 2D platformer game was released in early 90s for SEGA/Mega CD, a console add-ons for SEGA Genesis/Megadrive. It is highly regarded as being not the only the best platformer game of SEGA's 16-bit hardware, but as being the best system seller that had helped the system hardware sales.
You take control of SEGA lovable mascot Sonic the Hedgehog has set his mission twice again to save the journey from his nemesis Dr. Robotnik.

It was known for simplistic 2D gameplay, colourful graphics, wacky presentation and of course CD quality music. Unlike the European and Japanese version of Sonic CD has their own original soundtrack, the US version has their newer soundtrack composed by Spencer Nilsen and his crew as they wanted to make it sounds more richer and complex for its soundtrack. Theres one of the song that featured in boss battle which filled with chaotic environment of soundtrack followed by the wacky evil laugh at the background noise which I have never fully expecting this music sounds very disturbing for this type of game. The song that featured in boss battle are also featuring in weird Sonic imagery with subliminal messages on the screen can be found by using with the sound test codes on options menus. Its kinda weird that the boss battle song that featured on the US version considered sounds too scary for the 2D platformer genres which didn't fully happened on the EU and JP releases are more focused on the edginess and cool soundtrack of boss battle.

4 - Super Metroid - Mother Brain battle theme

Super Metroid is highly regarded as being one of the greatest SNES game ever made by Nintendo in early 90's and it is highly credited as being the biggest landmark of Metroidvania genres.
The story takes place after the event of Metroid 2: Return of Samus. The bounty hunter named Samus Aran receives a distress call as she returns to Space Colony to find the scientists who was killed by the leader of the Space Pirates named Ridley. After escaping from the Space Colony, she travels to Planet Zebes to retrieve an stolen infant Metroid creature.

The game was known for its non-linear level design, exploration, unique power-ups and epic boss battles that made the game so much fun to play. The best part of the game was the final boss stage where you have to battle against the nemesis called Mother Brain as the soundtrack plays very dramatic which filled with the heavier drums and that deadly screeching noises which I considered this as the most frightening things of 16-bit gaming.

3 - Outlast - Swarm Ambience

Outlast is a Survival Horror game for PC, PS4 and XBONE, which both developed and published by Red Barrels.

Its one of the scariest horror game of all-time which filled with great storyplot, some horror elements and overall atmosphere that may going to surprise you with multiples of jumpscares and mentally villains in the whole game. The story is about journalist named Miles Upshur who has a mission to investigate in Mental Hospital, which involves deadly patient, religious occult rituals and dead corpses which spreads everywhere in any room.

While the game was known for its horror presentation and stealthy gameplay, there are one of the soundtrack that really makes your ears ringing is the ones that featured in the game called "Swarm Ambience" which has a female choir that starts screaming from top of their lungs slowly from low to high pitch sounds giving a sudden nightmares inside of your head that never goes away. While most of the soundtrack are considered terrifying, but this song is just way more disturbing to listen because Outlast has the best sounds environment for horror gaming.

2 - Silent Hill - Devil's Lyric

Silent Hill is one of my favourite horror title for PS1, created by Konami. It is psychological horror game title which offered deadly imagery of presentation with gory looking levels, creepy looking zombies, some mysterious ghost and well written story that makes the game quite entertaining to play. The game focuses on Harry Mason have to search for his lost daughter name Cheryl since the car accident, as he have to explore the mysterious town of Silent Hill that filled with psychological dimension between real life and nightmare.

While the game was known for combat and puzzle gameplay and gruesome graphics, it is also has the most horrific sounds environment that makes everyone shivers after listening those creepy soundtrack of the game. The Devil's Lyric is the soundtrack that uses the background noise of machinery and distressed sound effects which makes the sounds very gritty, as its fits really well for the horror genres.

1 - SOMA - Every chase themes from all creatures

SOMA is a Sci-Fi Survivor Horror game for PS4, XBONE and PC, which was developed and published by Frictional Games who are known for their previous titles such as Pennumbra and Amnesia series.
The story focuses on Simon Jarrett who was suffered with his severe brain injury due to car accident and he has an brain scan appointment with the Doctor named David Munshi began to experimenting on Simon's brain until the scan went horribly wrong which causing Simon to black out and regains consciousness in Site Upsilon of PATHOS-II which filled with mysterious creatures known as WAU.

The game was known for its unique storyplot, darker environment and horror atmosphere that had becoming the main highlight of the horror title. What really makes the soundtrack scarier is the part where Simon was been chased by the WAU in the whole area of research facility. Its kinda like it mixes with between Terminator and Silent Hill have put together for its dark industrial style of music is what really makes the chase sequences quite intense, but frightening at the same time. The developer team did a fantastic job with the use of sound environments what really makes the SOMA a finest horror game of this generation.

Gravity Rush 2 PS4 Review

Gravity Rush 2 (A.K.A Gravity Daze 2 in Japan) is a action-adventure game for PS4, which was developed by SIE Japan Studios and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is a sequel to original 2012's Gravity Rush for PS Vita and remastered version for PS4 in year 2015.

It's been for like 6 years ago since I've played the first original game which is definitely being one of my favourite, but most technically impressive game on the PS Vita's hardware. It has decent storyline, memorable protagonist, epic action packed gameplay filled with missions and exploration, and gorgeous visuals that made the game so amazing, but its a shame that the original game didn't deserve much attention to western audiences due to PS Vita's poor hardware sales which led the game only sold few copies in worldwide, while the PS4 remastered version was sold lot less compared with the PS Vita version. Despite the poor sales, it gained cult following regarding the fanbase and few playstation owners did managed to enjoy their experience meaning that the Gravity Rush is a fantastic game that not many of people have played or heard of game before. I decided to give a try with the sequel for my PS4 which is a game that never got made for the PS Vita as it is a depressing news for PS Vita owners who enjoys the original game are not able to play the sequel on their handheld system unless they need to buy the PS4 hardware to play this game.

My thoughts on this game is really amazed me that the game is a bigger improvements over the first original meaning that the Gravity Rush 2 has pushed forward for its more in-depth storylines, some new cast of characters, bigger open-world exploration, newer fighting abilities, and more single-player missions with 20 to 40 hours long which is two times larger than the predecessor. The development teams has managed to add more content of the game to give a brand new experience for the fans of the series will able to be satisfied with this quality PS4 game. Regarding with the improvements, the game plays outstanding with great combat gameplay, impressive flying mechanics, entertaining single-player campaign with epic story missions and cool side-missions, and easy to explore worlds. I really loved the game's cel-shaded visuals, charming soundtrack and appealing presentation that adds the magnificent overall of the game.

So without go further do, lets start the review.

Presentation

This game takes place after the event of the first game and a prequel anime called Gravity Rush: The Animation Overture.
Its starts off with Kat and her partner Raven and Syd began to investigate the incident involves in the floating district of Neu Hiraleon, while they been encountered by mysterious androids before they being sucked into a gravitational vortex and transported to a different world.
When Kat and Syd arrive in the Banga Village to meet with the woman named Lisa as the leader of the Banga Village and being befriend with the girl named Cecie as they work in Mine places to collect Gravity Ore to sell to unscrupulous trader named Vogo Sun. After rescuing Cecie from the mysterious creature named Navi, Kat has finally regains her gravity power and reuniting with her cat named Dusty as she continues to working with Lisa's job, while she finally starting her quest at the city of Jirga Para Lhao.

I find the story in the game is starting off really good where Kat and Syd has dressing up as mine workers before they been encountered by the storm which led them into escape before being rescued by Lisa. As continues to follow the story further, there are a great storylines in each story mission such as battling with Vogo's step-brother named Fi through competition matches, protecting the poor people from military forces, why Raven becoming Night-Gale, and going back into Hekseville again which started to become more interesting as the story filled with light and dark moments that fits the emotions of the storyplot.

I find Kat is surprisingly entertaining in regards of her cool special powers abilities and great personalities that kept her interesting, while I also liked Raven for her edginess and kick-ass appearances. There are some side-characters in the game such as Cecie which is heartkinded girl as being a great friend with Kat and Syd is being a decent police-officer, while I do find Lisa is being too harsh with Cecie at the start which takes awhile for her to get used too, and Vogo is just seems to be very dodgy person when its comes to his trading business. There one of the most annoying character in the game that I can't stand is Kali Angel, who replaced Kat as a City's Hero of Hekseville. It seems that you cannot really trust Kali's ignorant facial expressions during the story dialogue and you can really tell how much shes talking like a down right bitch as she is nothing but equivalent to most of the bratty kids from cartoon shows. One of the villain that actually pretty good is Dr. Brahman, a scientist who designed a city-wide, robotic, Nevi defense system and becoming mayor of the city as being a mad scientist who plans to use the crystal-induced powers of his kidnapped daughters to destroy the peaceful city. As a villain, he acts like he pretending to be a Mr nice guy in whole story, but he has a wicked darkside of his event which made him look terrifying than most of the video game evil scientists.

What I've liked about the presentation was that it has mixed between the actual cutscenes and comic-book style sildeshow with text dialogue which kinda feels like watching most of the awesome superhero movies due to great art style and colourful environment details in the game. I also liked the open-world scenery that takes place in different locations, so you have sites places like Lei Elgona is where poor village people lives in broken houses, Lei Havina is filled with rich assholes has quailty fountain areas and big huge mansion, Lei Colmosna has variety of bazaars and shopping areas, Auldnoir is just quiet peaceful old town, Pleajeune is kinda has "Las Vegas" vibes to it with bar shop and ferris wheel,  Vendecentre is larger downtown area of Hekseville which is similar to french city, and Endestria filled with factory work places. Each of the sites are really fun to explore around which gives a stunning atmospheres to look at and how amazing the places look in the game.

Overall, it has great story, entertaining characters and stunning presentations.

Gameplay

This game features 27 story missions, 50 side missions and 20 challenge missions for single-player quests.

You take control of Kat has her ability to control her gravity power and your aim is to complete all the objectives that been added on mission list. You are able to explore the whole area to search for missions to choose from, collecting gems to power up your abilities and discovering new things such as warphole which allows you to fast travel through the sites, so you can also check out the map screen to help you navigate the certain things that you want to visit.

On combat gameplay, Kat has basic attacks which is used for close-combat system, while increasing the power bar which allows her to perform special attacks giving instant kills to enemies, and you can also pick many of objects by using stasis field which allows you to throw objects at the enemies which is handy for the combat system that you can quickly able to attack the foes. She has ability to use gravity power for flying in the air, walk on walls and slides, so her flying mechanics allows her to fly around the city which is quickest way to travel around faster than using on-foot movements and I do find walking on the walls is kinda cool which changes the different camera angles of areas. I also liked the gravity slides which allows her to sliding through the levels, but I do find the sliding controls is little bit wonky which takes sometime to get used too, but playable at the same time. You can also perform gravity kick at the enemies while activating the gravity power in the air, so it can be locked on with blue-circle symbols which helps you able to aim at the foes easier, but having the issue with using the gravity kick is that it can be went off-tracked when failing to use flying attack on the enemies at the wrong target is kinda bit annoying, but practice makes perfect when getting used with the gameplay controls. The game also introduces the two new abilities that allow you to change fighting style such as Lunar style which is useful for Kat's speed and her ability to jump higher, while Jupiter style are used for heavy destructible allowing her to perform powerful attacks which adds the variety of fighting style gameplay. Going on power-up menu which gives you options to upgrade your fighting mechanics such as basic attacks, gravity attack, special attack, gravity slide, stasis field, and evasion which improves your certain of skills such as more combo attacks, adding capacity of stasis field's objects, reducing your gravity restoring time, and theres many more to unlock your abilities which really made Kat becoming powerful fighter. Completing many of the missions including story, side and challenge which gives you kinds of rewards such as obtaining more gems from challenge missions and increasing capacity of your health bar from both story and side missions depending what missions you are playing on. You can collect talisman from the Mine ore area which is additional special items that allow you to add different effects to Kat's arsenal of weapons and powers which is very useful for combat gameplay, and you can also head to fortune places where you can craft your own talisman by combining resources together to make it more up to date.

I'm completely satisfied with the combat gameplay as being a solid overall with brand new fighting styles, ability to add and crafting talisman, and upgrading the fighting skills which makes the gameplay quite acceptable for the playability. I really enjoyed playing most of the story mission which involves protecting people in town from the bad guys, fighting with epic bosses, and completing challenge tasks from the dark gravestone. Some of the side-mission has funny segments such as delivering stinky-box to Lei Havina, doing crime investigation in Vendecentre, working with film directors to become film star, and preventing drunk old man from entering bar shop, while challenge mission involves silly mini game like attracting the fans with your disguised costume, delivering newspapers, sliding race, and bringing customers to food shop which is really fun to play that keeps me playing more and more. The things that I don't like about the game is the stealth mission where you have to reach the destination without getting caught by enemy nearby, but the issue is that you could get easily caught by the enemy at the far distance which makes it even frustrating to play, so it took me awhile to complete the stealth mission. The game also features motion controls scheme just like the first original game, but I do find it completely useless when playing on PS4 controller which can disrupts your gameplay controls when playing on mission, so I didn't have problem with using the motion controls when playing the first original game on the PS Vita, but still it wasn't easy to play with the PS4 controller for motion controls scheme which makes it feels quite wonky.
You can also turn off the motion control through the control option menu which might help prevent the motion control being used in the game.

So far I really liked the game and its still playable for most part.

Overall, it has massive exploration, solid combat gameplay, and great story and side missions.

Graphics

I was very surprised that the open-world design is much larger than the first game with great draw-distance and huge amount of environment which made the whole game looked quite bigger for PS4 titles. Most of the environments has well detailed city buildings, mansions, houses and palaces is looking spectacular in open-world areas, and it has colourful cel-shaded effects and bold looking animation that gives a anime style look on the game which makes it look beautiful to see how amazing the game looked. The character animation is looking fantastic in the game due to great use of facial animation and their appearance that adds the personality of the character development which makes them even look interesting.
Its a big improvement over the first original which proves the sequel is doing a much better looking than was before.

Overall, it has huge open-world design, spectacular environments, and amazing animation style.

Music and Sounds

I got to admit the game has the best soundtrack of the modern gaming. The original musics has shares with catchy jazz and orchestrated style genres which really fits the game's personality such as action sequences, story cutscenes and in-game area. There are some of the music track are kinda reminds me of most of the movies from the past such as Forbidden Zone sounded similar from the Harry Potter films, Lei Elgona has Ennio Morricone vibe, and Old Town of Auldnoir is kinda sounds just like from Studio Ghibli's films, so these are the reasons why the original soundtrack in the game is Just sounds fantastic. It was composed by Kohei Tanaka was known for his musical scores for anime television series, OVAs, films, video games and tokusatsu series including Gunbuster, Sakura Wars and One Piece.

The sound effects are just sounds epic for whole game due to use of realistic background and environmental sounds effects from the open-world area, and atmospheric noises that fits really well in the game. The voice acting for most of the characters in the game didn't really speak with the actual language, so instead it was spoken in mixed between Japanese and French fictional language which makes it sounds bit more ancient, so it didn't really bothered me at all because that what the game is supposed to be sounds like.

Overall, it has fantastic original soundtrack and epic sound effects.

Special Features

This game features unlockables Kat's costumes (including free DLCs costume pack) and room appearences, new DLC episodes such as Raven's Choice where you can play as Raven, collecting gems and talisman, and side-missions and challenge missions.

Overall, its a descent selection of all special features.

Numerous of missions to play

Huge open-world levels with bigger explorations

Gorgeous visuals

Final Verdict

Gameplay 9/10 - Massive exploration, solid combat gameplay, and great story and side missions.

Graphics 9/10 - Huge open-world design, spectacular environments, and amazing animation style.

Music and Sounds 9/10 - Fantastic original soundtrack and epic sound effects.

Special Features 8/10 - Descent selection of all special features

Overall 9/10 - As much I've liked the first game, this sequel is technically superior to the original game which deserves much credit for being two times larger and better than was before. I had fun playing over 20 to 40 hours of this epic action-adventure which gives me a motivation to enjoy my overall experience due to numerous of missions to play, newer fighting mechanics, more in-depth storylines, and bigger open-world environment what really makes this game an enjoyable.

Gravity Rush 2 is one of the best, but most underappreciated playstation exclusives that not many people have played it, so if you're the fan of this genres or the series in particular then this is must play game for all serious video game collectors out there becuase it's beautifully made cult following titles that everyone should able to enjoy these type of game.

Shenmue 1 and 2 HD Collection PS4 Review

History of Shenmue series:

In case you been wondering what I'm talking about the game that involves finding sailors, collecting toy figures, going convenience stores, working at harbours for forklift job, learning martial arts techniques, dealing with thugs, finding clues, one special girl in dreams, playing Lucky Hit gambing, discovering the truth behind mysterious mirrors, so it is Shenmue as being one of my all-time favourite video game series that defines gaming genres. It was created by Yu Suzuki, a same creator was known for his SEGA's arcade classics such as Space Harrier, After Burner, Outrun, Hang-On, and Virtua Fighter.

I've been a long time fan of the series when I first remember the first game came out for the SEGA Dreamcast in early 2000's. I just came over to my cousin house, who has the copy of the game, to play our first open-world experience to discover the mysterious storylines, memorable characters, cinematic presentations, interactive gameplay filled with battle system, QTE events and open-world exploration, and realistic looking graphics that really made the game so much special for Dreamcast titles. The game was well received that the game is been credited for pioneering several game technologies as original open-world city game before the idea was popularized by games such as SEGA's Yakuza series, while QTE Events was also popularized for later games such as Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain. It is considered to be most expensive video game ever developed, but also being listed as the greatest game of all time. I was so happy that I really enjoyed my experience of the first game that bought a smile on my face and then I had a chance to play Shenmue 2 on Dreamcast which was released two years later after the first original game and then got later ported to Xbox Original. It is also well received by critics and fans as I really liked the sequel for bigger open-world exploration, epic QTE actions, newer characters, and great storylines, but it's kinda shame that the sequel got end up with commercial failures due to game's poor sales which led the developers team into development hell when working on another sequel. It took too long for the fans of the series are kept begging SEGA for the another sequel to be happen until Team Yu has finally revealed the Shenmue 3 in year 2015 as making a huge return of the beloved franchises. After the kickstarter crowdfunding success which has raised over $6 million as sixth highest-funded campaign in Kickstarter history, the upcoming game was going to be released in year summer 2019. After the Shenmue 3 announcement, SEGA has finally brings the HD Collection of two of the masterpiece titles for modern PCs and consoles such as PS4, XBONE and PC in this year. I finally got the copy of these legendary HD collection for my PS4 and had a chance to beat the two of the game in 10 days, so let's move on to my video game review.

Shenmue 1 and 2 HD Collection PS4 Review:

Shenmue 1 and 2 HD Collection is a video game compilations of classic Dreamcast titles, and it is a open-world adventure games for PS4, XBONE, and PC was published by SEGA. The first title was originally developed by SEGA AM2 for SEGA Dreamcast in year 1999-2000, while the sequel was released in year 2001 for SEGA Dreamcast and then got later ported to Xbox Original in year 2002-03. These games has finally ported later for PCs and consoles in this year, which was been done by d3t Ltd for HD remasters.

I was so glad that SEGA has finally brings the two of the legendary titles to modern day PCs and consoles, so these HD ports include new graphics and control options, improved user interfaces, and has options to choose Japanese and English voices. So far, It's still plays like the original classics and I had a chance to play the whole two games in every 4 hours a day. I've notice the differences between the original version and HD ports was the game been displayed on 16:9 widescreen, so you have the options to choose between the original graphics from the Dreamcast version, while HD version has hi-res mode and bloom effects which improves the use of textures and colours to make it look suitable for HDTV. Having the updated controls and user-interface which adds the suitable playabilty for both modern PCs and consoles players. It worked really fine for whole two games which I am happy that I didn't experienced the problems of the single-player gameplay besides there are some minor bugs on cutscenes and audios which can be found on the first game regarding the Day 1 patch updates, but I hopefully it can be fixed later for another patch update. So far, it plays well and I really enjoyed the HD collection of these two games as my second time playing since the original Dreamcast version.

So without go further do, lets start the review.

Presentation

In the events of first Shenmue that takes place in Yokosuka, Japan, it starts off with 18 year old teen martial artist named Ryo Hazuki came running back to his family's home until he finally discovers his father Iwao Hazuki battles to fight with mysterious man named Lan Di, who is the leader of Chi You Men and threatens Iwao for Dragon mirror. After Lan Di has knocking down Ryo and Iwao, he also confronting Iwao for murdering man named Sunming Zhao and instantly kills Iwao with his finishing blow. The day after the event of Iwao's death lying on Ryo's arm, he swore to avenge his father death as his quest to investigating the mysterious mirrors, while finding a same man that killed Iwao in whereabouts. The second game focuses on the continuation of the story, as focuses on Ryo Hazuki has finally arrived to Hong Kong to find the person named Lishao Tao to find out the whereabouts of Yuanda Zhu, a martial arts expert who sent Ryo's father a letter warning him of Lan Di's intentions.

The story in the game has just caught my attention that how interesting the storyline of both game is to know why the cold-blooded killer demanding for the mirror and kills Iwao instantly which adds the mysterious of story plot as Ryo has to start investigating with people in the street knows about the incident and what they witnessed which gives a clue to find out where the killer whereabouts in Japan. Its a really depressing to see Ryo had promised to seek revenge which won't be easier for him unless he can get support and advice from someone who knew his father. It is good to know what the mirror is all about, which brings more in-depth mystery to make the story elements sounds more interesting.

Despite the well written story that made the game quite special, I find Ryo Hazuki is one of the most memorable video game characters of SEGA's franchises regarding his cool personality, being talented fighter, and his appearances that made him so great in the game. Most of the supporting characters are also quite amazing in the game, so in the first game it has Master Chen, Fukuhara, Nazomi, Goro and Tom that gives a helpful advice to Ryo, while Guizhang are also a helpful partner that helps Ryo to fight with gangs in Harbour. In second game it has female biker named Joy and little street kid named Wong, while street gang leader Ren is another supportive partner helps Ryo to investigate Chi You Men's gangs while seaching for Zhu's whereabouts. Ryo can always get advice from the female teacher of Man Mo Temple named Xiuying Hong that teaches him with Chinese Kung Fu. There's one of the special girl dresses up in orange named Shenhua that appeared in Ryo's dreams in the first game and you can able get to know about her in second game once you had able to progress through the story.

The game also featured the villains in both games such as Lan Di as the lead villain of the game, while the first game has Mad Angel's gangs and that crazy golem guy named Chai, while the second game has weird woman named Yuan and the big fat guy named Don Yiu which I was really surprised how awesome the cast of the villains that featured in the game.

The game's presentation is full of amazing to see how atmospheric both of the games was which filled with beauty and magical of China and Japan cultures. The first game that takes place in Japan has great street houses filled with neighbours, convenient store that has items to buy, the streets has vending machines to drink and toy capsules machine to collect figures, antique shops where you can buy moves scrolls, the bus stops that you can use it for travelling, arcade places that you can able to play your favourite SEGA's arcade classics, and the harbour that you can able to work there as forklift job. In second game that takes place in both Hong Kong and China, it has larger areas where you can visit to the tea shops, antiques shops, Kung Fu stores, Guest Houses for sleepover, gambling area where you can able to win and earn money, and temples to learn Chinese Martial Arts. The game's atmospheres has the use of date, time and weather system in the game which allows the weather to be changed differently such as rain, snow and sunlight, while the date and time can also effect with day and night time for opening and closing stores, and bedtime which made the whole game quite realistic at the times in early 2000's and I also liked the use of the cinematic design for both cutscene and in-game conversation dialogues that fits well for the game's presentation, but it does have minor problem in first game with cutscene bug where it got stucked on wrong places, but it can be fixed by quitting the game first, load the same save data again, and then repeat the same process to prevent the same cutscene bug that got stucked last time, so I'm pretty sure it can be fixed later for another update patches which is no problem.

Overall, it has outstanding story, memorable characters, atmospheric presentation and in-game's systems.

Gameplay

In both game, you take control of Ryo Hazuki has his goal to complete his quest by following the task which can be written on his notebook for important clues, so you are told to investigate with local people to find out the incident that was linked to Chi You Men's gangs related. Sometime it's takes awhile to get used too depending on which people can able to give you a information for newer clues or some other may not able to know what you're asking a question, so once you get the information from people then the newer clues can be added to your notebook so you can able to go specific places that the clues been written on the notebook such as sneaking into Warehouse to find important person and visiting gang's homes to interrogating gang member for information that been linked to Chi You Men's whereabouts. The clues are also involved with puzzle solving such as finding important items that can be found at different rooms, so you can able to find newer items by interacting the objects such as drawers, closets, boxes, cabinets and shelves to retain the items that you are searching for such as key to open doors, collecting cassette types to gain information, and opening secret paths with special items.

Besides the investigation gameplay segments, the game also involved with fighting gangs which can be played on different sequences such as QTE events where the command buttons can be appeared on the screen as the player has to quickly press the correct command button to avoid accidental during the fight sequence, but also has epic escaping, chasing and balancing sequence where you have to survive through without botching up the QTE gameplay, so if the button been pressed incorrectly which leads into epic fail sequences in the game. The basic QTE is pretty straightforward which you can only press the single button, but in the second game which introduces advanced QTE which shows the directional button and 4-buttons on the screen, but you need to quickly press the correct button in right timing as what it been shown on the QTE display which makes it quite hard, but really adds the game's challenge, so be careful when playing the game with QTE sequences. The game also has 3D fighting system similar to SEGA's Virtua Fighter, so you will have basic punch, kick and throwing button to attack your opponents, while you can able to dodge them by pressing the sidestep button. You can also perform different fighting moves which you can able to check it out on the list of fighting moves on the menus which helps you to learn the moves. You can also add your new moves from the shops that sells fighting scroll or obtain it from the someone that teaches you the Martial Arts which improves Ryo's fighting style in the game.

These game has open-world gameplay where you can able to explore the whole city area as you can also spent time to do whatever you want such as going to convenient store to buy items which also involves winning prizes, playing SEGA's classics from arcade places, winning money prizes from lucky hit, arm wrestle and street fight club, earning money from job places such as forklift job in Japan and lifting boxes with team workers in Hong Kong, collecting figures from toy capsules machine which you can able to sell those to pawnshop store in Hong Kong, and there's many places to visit that made the game quite unique for Dreamcast titles.

So far, the whole game are actually worked well for HD ports as the developer team are trying to make these game staying original as possible. I had no problem with the gameplay especially with updated controls which makes the character's movements and camera system easier to control on my PS4 controller. Controlling the characters is worked fine for most of the part such as walking, running and interacting stuff, while I find QTE event are quite simple for most action sequences. The fighting mechanics is just like the SEGA's Virtua Fighter with unique fighting style and simple fighting controls are worked well for battle gameplay. I had fun exploring around the areas with brand new discoveries, meeting with people, going to places to visit and have fun on open-world levels. I do like the puzzle aspects and searching for clues in the games which really motivates me to progress through the game's story.

Overall, it has outstanding open-world exploration, excellent battle gameplay, epic QTE events and puzzle aspects.

Graphics

To me, it didn't change the whole game a lot, but still remains a same original look of the game. For HD ports, I'm glad that the game runs on 16:9 widescreen to make the game look wider and I did notice that both of games has improved the use of shaper hi-res textures, bloom effects and colours environment that made the game look suitable for HD standards, so I'm happy that the development team trying to make the game look cleaner and fresh for modern PCs and consoles.

Despite the improvements, I really loved the scenery environments of trees, flowers, waterfall, city building, sea water and houses which adds the past nostalgia of the game. The weather system is quite well done with realistic looking rain, snow and sunlight, and I finding the use of day and night time system which has great use of contrast on skybox from blue to black. The character's design seems to be ageing well for today standards regarding the use of facial animation and body language which adds the personality of the game.

As I said earlier, it doesn't mean the game is all been re-made because its just a straight up HD ports of both games, but having with great resolution size, acceptable colour schemes and sharper details on the game is to make it look suitable for HDTV as trying to make the game look neater with less pixelated, so you have the options to change the graphics between the classics and HD for your suitable preferences which was featured in options menu along with selectable screen size between 4:3 and 16:9.

Overall, it has stunning environments, great weather system, day and night contrast, and ageing character's design.

Music and Sounds

I got to admit that Shenmue has the greatest video game soundtrack ever made. Most of Japanese composer did a fabulous job for whole game which really fits well on game's presentation to express so many emotions in both games, so it has both Chinese and Japanese feelings of orchestrated soundtrack, while some of them has jazzy and catchy tunes in some different parts of scenes. The sound effects is quite atmospheric for most parts such as the sounds of waterfall, jingle sounds on convenience store, the sounds of vehicle in streets, and crowd noises that really fits well for whole open-world area. I also liked the chime sounds of QTE events which really helps me to navigate the right button on the screen.
You have the selectable options to choose between English and Japanese voices for in-game cutscenes and conversation dialogues, so I do find English voice acting considered cheesy in comparsion with Japanese voice which sounded more acceptable overall, but I had to give credit to Corey Marshall did a decent job for voicing Ryo Hazuki which sounds lot better than most of voice cast in English dub.
Then again, there are some minor audio bugs on first game as well which has few missing sound effect and bit muffled voices during cutscenes, but I'm pretty sure it can be fixed again with another patch update which is no problem.

Overall, it has fantastic soundtrack, atmospheric sound effects, and chessey English voice acting.

Overall 9/10 - Shenmue 1 and 2 are still my all-time favourite Dreamcast games, but these HD collection are still deserves to be masterpiece for the fans of the series can able to get their hands on with these most ironic classic titles for PC, PS4 and XBONE, while it can be difficult for the newcomers of the franchise, but I'm pretty sure they might able to give these game a second chance since these game hasn't sold well on the Dreamcast release along with Xbox Original in year 2000's. I'm so happy that SEGA has finally give these game a re-releases to revive the series again and I'm hopefully to look forward to see a another Shenmue game for summer 2019. If you're into with slower-paced open-world adventures then go buy these legendary collection because it deserves more love and passions.

I wanted to thanks all of Shenmue fans community for supporting the wonderful franchise to keep the series alive and I also wanted to thanks SEGA for bringing these classics back to modern day gaming, and very special thanks to Yu Suzuki for bringing the franchise back in business.

Shenmue 1 and 2 HD Collection is still amazing video game compilations and it is a worth for your collection, so have a good luck finding sailors around.
