Doom 3: BFG Edition PS3 Review

I love the Doom series since in my childhood memories. I'm going to talk about the history of Doom series before reviewing this game.

History of Doom series.

Back in 1992, Id Software is best known for FPS classic games like Wolfenstein 3d which is a first FPS game came on PC before the original Doom released in 1993 which became successful FPS game on PC which praises for solid gameplay, graphics engine, best music track comes with heavy metal ambient composed by Bobby Prince and online muiltiplayer battle became the first PC games supports online networking. While Doom is became best FPS game for PC in 1993, it's also became a controversial due to graphic violence and satanic themes which had became a biggest video game controversy of all time. Id Software have brought the sequel called Doom 2 released in 1994 which had became a another great sequel to original Doom. In 1997, Doom 64 came for Nintendo 64 with different graphics engine and same gameplay as original Doom. It quite lot darker than the original to make the game look like a proper horror genre in FPS game but it's a decent game for N64 but it was'nt just good as the original. In between 2004 and 2005, Id Software brings Doom 3 for PC and Xbox comes with newer gameplay and graphics, more darker elements, new monster, improved weapons and different storyplot. It became the greatest FPS game around in 2005. Id Software are considering to make a sequel to Doom 3 in sometime future perfect.
Now I'm going to review Doom 3 BFG Edition for now on.

Doom 3: BFG Edition PS3 Review

Doom 3: BFG Edition is a updated version of original Doom 3 for PS3, X360 and PC.
This game came with HD graphics with 3D support which is a new thing for seventh generation consoles. It has a expansion pack level featured from resurrection of evil including lost levels which is cool to have a extra level and It has a 2 classics Doom games which I already have both for PC but it has a split screen muiltiplayer for console version.
Lets move on to Doom 3 storyplot. This story take place in planet mars, the main character Doomguy came to UAC's Mars Base to meet up with Master Sergeant orders him to find scientist from a Delta Lab who had gone missing. UAC's Mars Base was been attacked by demons from hell attempts to kill the scientist and marines. Doomguy sets his mission to defend himself in UAC's Mars Base to fight off the demons.
For the gameplay, the gameplay engine is quite different from the 2004 version which developed by Vicarious Visons while the BFG Edition is handled by Bethesda Softworks for PS3 and X360. The controls scheme is good for movements and combat system which is quite same thing as the 2004. The weapons is decent for shooting range, good targeting and quality weapons choices like pistols, shotgun, machine gun, chain gun, grenades, rocket launcher, plasma gun, chainsaw and one of the best weapons of all time is BFG 9000 (aka Big F-ing Gun 9000) shoots with green plasma bullet to melt 3 or 4 demons including big monsters. The levels has a good challenging with puzzle solving and boss fights. It does have a save features on pause menu which you don't have to start the level all over again, save features will let you save the game on the place where you at.
The graphics are ok'ay but pretty look dated, the lighting is lot higher compared to original Xbox version is look darker and better details. some textures and background are look cleaner and then the character design is lot same, it is nice with 3D glasses on with some better details is lot better than using the normal video settings. Graphics isn't important thing, it's all about the gameplay thats matters the most important things in gaming.
The music and sound has a great horror ambient music, good voice acting for characters and decent sound effects.
The special features is just what you need. It has a 3D glasses support and online muiltiplayer battle, expansion pack of Resurrection of evil including 8 lost levels and 2 classics Doom games what Id Software have offers to their fans to enjoy the game with extra features.

Advantages

Solid gameplay

Decent weapons

Great puzzle solving

Scary atmosphere

Badass demons characters (such as Imp, lost souls, Cacodemon, Arch-Vile, Hell-Knight, Revenant and Cyberdemons)

Disadvantages

Graphics in BFG Edition isn't good as the original xbox version.

Lacks of split screen muiltiplayer for Doom 3 except 2 classics have one.

Load times takes 35 seconds to load the game.

Final Verdict

Is it worth buying this or stick it to original version instead, lets see.

Gameplay 7.5/10 - Good controls scheme, decent combat system and good challenge of levels.

Graphics 6.8/10 - It's an okay graphics for normal video setting but look better on 3D counterpart. Too much lighting isn't dark enough, some cleaner textures and backgrounds and then the character models looked the same.

Music and Sounds 8/10 - Great horror ambient music, good voice acting and decent sound effects.

Special Features 8/10 - Expansion pack of Resurrection of evil with 8 lost levels, 3D glasses support, online battle and 2 classic Doom games is just what you all needed.

Overall 7.1/10 - It's a decent update game for PS3 and X360. If you're a PS3 and X360 gamers out there, then it's worth to buy it. If you already have a original version for Xbox and PC, then stick with them instead.
